Farewell Nimrod!

As we noted in the last entry in this blog, we decided to put Nimrod on the market during our cruise from Gladstone to the Whitsundays in May.

So we phoned Brent Vaughan of Multihull Central and followed his advice on price and process.  We then got stuck in to a serious working bee to get her up to market standard.

You can see some of the results here. Nimrod For Sale, and here, Guided Tour. George did a fantastic job, and Enriqueta Morato helped greatly with the final detailing.

In the event, the first serious tyre-kicker made an offer of our asking price, unconditionally, so she sold on 14th July. There wasn't a lot to discuss.

As I am sure all boat owners can appreciate, there are complex feelings involved in letting go of a precious boat. Nimrod has been like a child to us, having come together as a couple after the age of child-bearing. She has looked after us well in our various adventures and travels over the last nine years.

Here are links to some of the highlights:

Farewell precious boat! Enjoy new adventures.

This blog will close now, and be succeeded by another one to record our new adventures, photos and thoughts.

The new blog is called 'Images and Ideas' and can be found here.

May is the time to sail north

We left Gladstone after some major work was done on Nimrod over the summer. She now boasts a brand new rig, including all shrouds, forestay and furler, and a new Tohatsu 9.8 hp outboard. Also solid targa infills, and new eArche 180 watt thin solar panels

We had a lovely sail north past our usual haunts.

Further north, helped by the good weather and South-east trade wind. The north side of Marble Island. Curlew Island. Carlisle Island. Cid Harbour, and finally Abell Point Marina in Airlie Beach.

Along the way we talked of all the cruises we have done in Nimrod since we bought her in August 2009, roughly four months a year for eight years.

And finally decided that this was a time to stop, and have a break from sailing, and put Nimrod on the market.

So, with more of a sense of peace than regret, that is what we have done. We spent about ten days in Abell Point having a working bee to fix a few things, clear out stuff to remove and clean her. She looks great.

Anyone interested in buying Nimrod should contact Multihull Central.

Either Brent Vaughan: ‭0418 670 751

or Chris Henry: ‭0408 814 770‬

I should prefer that the marketing was handled by them, but I have assembled a blog with Nimrod's  details which is available to view here.
I am confident that she is the best-equipped second-hand Seawind 1160 for sale in the country.

Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast

Something odd gripped the Gold Coast this year. We have known for a few years that the Games were coming, but as the time arrived, there was something approaching panic which spread through the community. Lots of people made plans to be out of town, to miss the traffic, the terrorists or some other chaos.

We decided to stick it out, and reduce our work hours to a minimum. Then as the time arrived (April 4 - 15th), the energy shifted, and a sense of excitement started to spread. The world was coming to a party and we were the hosts! Better join in, enjoy it, and contribute to putting on a good show.

Here are some photos.
